A 1 * Northern bottlenose whale Hyperoodon ampullatus (rostratus)
a) Very young animal, beached on the South-west coast, approx. 15 miles south of Reykjavík, on September 8th 1998. Length 6.8 meters. In formalin.
b) Very young animal, beached on the Reykjanes peninsula on October 9th, 1998. Lenght 6,54 meters, testicle weighing only 50 grammes. Member whole with retractor muscle and part of the pelvic bone. In formalin.
A 2 * Sperm whale ( Pottwhale, cachalot) Physeter catodon
a) Adult caught by the Hjalfjörður whaling station in 1975. Skin flattened, tanned.
b) An old male beached on the south coast in January 1992. Hollowed , salted, dried, placed on a wooden plaque.
c) Adult beached along with two others on the North-east coast in June 1995. Skin tanned for neckties, bowties etc.
d) Adult beached on the North-west coast in November 1997. Lower jaw missing. Brought to the whale museum in Húsavík. With one testicle. In formalin.
e) Young animal, about 20 years old, length 14 meters, beached recently dead on the North coast in April 1998. Had 42 teeth (21+21). Skin flattened and tanned for leather work.
f) Young animal, 10,11 meters, beached on the North coast in July 1998. In formalin.
g) Adult beached on the North coast west of Siglufjördur on September 3rd 1999. Penis 162 cm was torn and cut. Front part hollowed and salt-dried, upper part unsuccessfully tanned for leather.
h) Adult, length 15.8 meters, beached alive in Hrútafjörður on the North coast on 27 August 2000. Cause of death intestinal blockage. Penis 170 cm. and 70 kg. In formalin.

a) A young male beached along with another killer whale on the North-east coast in October 1995. Hollowed, salted, dried on a wooden plaque.

A 6 & Humpback whale Megaptera novaeangliae (boops)
a) Very young animal, probably this year´s calf. Length 8.3 meters. Discovered recently dead, floating half a mile off the the West coast of Skagi in Northern Iceland on August 21st 1998. Preserved in formalin.
b) Young animal, not sexually mature, length 11,8 m. long. Beached alive in SE Iceland in April 2002. Rescue attempts proved unsuccessful. In formalin.
A 7 * White-beaked dolphin Lagenorhynchus albirostris
a) Very young, length 208 cm. Beached in Ólafsvík, W-Iceland. Penis whole with retractor muscle and one pelvic bone. November 22.11.2000. In formalin.
b) Young animal, length 222 cm. Beached near Ólafsvík, W-Iceland, in March 2001. Kept in formalin.
c) Very young animal, 205 cm. Beached on the Southern shore of Seltjarnarnes peninsula, on the outskirts of Reykjavík in January 2002. Very good specimen with retractor muscle and pelvic bones. Kept in formalin.
A 8 * Minke whale (lesser rorqual) Balaenoptera acutorostrata
a) Adult caught by the whaling station at Brjánslækur on the Western fiords in July 1980. Salted and dried on a wooden plaque.

f) Foetus, 2.4 m. long, almost fully developed. Found beached along with its mother on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula on 26 January 2001. It had been washed out through a hole on the mother´s side, near the back, the umbilical cord still unbroken. Kept in formalin.
g) Adult, 7,75 m. long. Caught in the Faxaflói Bay, 17 miles West of Reykjavík, 15 September 2003. Member whole with retractor muscles and pelvic bones.In formalin.

PFI 7 Beach-walker Aries / Canis conchacus Maritimus Penis bone. Found in SE-Iceland in 1848 by Jón Magnússon, who was said to be „truthful, respectable, restrained, and acceptably intelligent“. RÍS-HÍR 1981.
PFI 8 Beach-murmurer Homo unipes, unimanus et luscus Maritimus
Found on the island of Saurlátur in Breiðafjörður in late18th century. RÍS-HÍR 1997. One legged, one armed and one eyed human monster who tried to push people into the sea and kill them there.
PFI 9 Seabull Bos taurus Aquaticus (Islandicus) From Björn the Mighty, a farmer in E-Iceland, early 18th century. RÍS-HÍR 1977.
PFI 10 Troll Homo gigantus Islandicus Young boy, thoroughly petrified. Found in N-Iceland in 1941. RÍS-HÍR, Christmas 1994.
PFI 11 Njardvik Growler Homo / Monstrum terribilis Njardvicensis
Killed in Naddagil by Jón Björnsson, a tenant farmer at Gilsárvellir, E-Iceland in the middle of the 18th century. RÍS-HÍR 1986.
PFI 12 Icelandic Christmas lad Homo natalicus Islandicus Possibly named Giljagaur / Litlipungur / Dúðadurtur / Flórsleikir. Found deceased at the foot of Mt.Esja near Reykjavík on January 6th 1985. Presented to RÍS-HÍR by a former Mayor of Reykjavík on January 6th 2000.

PFI 14 Changeling Nanus subterraneus subditus (Joekuldalensis) Died on a farm in E-Iceland, unchristened in March 1834. RÍS-HÍR, May 1980.
PFI 15 Elf Homo sapiens Mysticus (invisibilis) Penis bone (Os penis, Baculum). Unusually big and old specimen. Found buried just outside the churchyard at Skeggjastaðir, NE Iceland. Presumably from pagan times in Iceland, i.e. before year 1000.
PFI 16 Enriching Beach Mouse Mus litoris Locupletatus. Penis bone. A mouse that draws money from the sea to enrich her owner. Found on the south-coast in November 1993.
PFI 17 Elfin Billy-Goat Caper hircus obscurus Conglaciatus (Purkholensis). Found frozen at the edge of the Snæfellsjökull glacier by the son of the man that last saw it alive in the late18th century. Donated by descendants of the finder.
PFI 18 Thorgeir´s Bull Bos taurus folkloristicus Islandicus The most famous of all Icelandic zombie-like ghosts in Icelandic history. Extremely active from the middle of the18th century to the begininng of the 20th century in Northern Iceland. Presented to the museum by one of the descendants af Thorgeir Jónsson, the creator of the creature in 1983.

PFI 20 The Nasty Ghost of Snaefiall (Umbra malefica Snaefiallensis). A famous ghost of the early 17th century from the Western Fiords. After many nasty exploits he was finally put down by his own father, pastor Jón Þorleifsson. Donated to the museum in 1977 by one of pastor Jón´s descendants.
PFI 21 The Corpse-eating Cat of Thingmuli (Feles catus necrophaga Thingmulensis) Shrunk testicles from the ill-famed cat that used to dig itself into the churchyard of Thingmuli in East-Iceland and eat corpses during the first half of the 19th century. The eye-glances of this cat were fatal to all creatures.
